The Chakdaha College Central Library is the intellectual hub of the Chakdaha College and provides a serene haven for those interested in pursuit of knowledge, in finding a quiet corner for their learning, research and writing or even just catching up on the happenings of the day and the goings-on in the world through the newspapers and Internet. It is a place to read, surf, learn, disseminate and debate.
The Chakdaha College Central Library functions as the primary information resource centre, and repository of all printed for teaching, learning and research activities at the institute. Apart from textbooks and recommended reading material prescribed for each course offered at the institute, the library houses a growing collection of learning and research monographs, reports, multi-volume reference works, dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, and so on. The library facilitates access to a number of journals through its participation in consortia, such as: N-LIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) Programme, the consortium of INFLIBNET through which the members of the library can access 6300+ e-journals and 1,00,000+ e-books. The library also subscribes to few journals directly from publishers as well as through reputed subscription agencies. At present, users can consult more than twenty five thousand books (available on shelves). The library is spacious (about 2500 square feet), well light, and well-ventilated. Its location allows for easy access and offers a seating capacity for 40 users at a time.
Developing the library operations are automated using Koha Library Software, the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) enables library users know their checkout status, issue history. This step will greatly enhance the library efficiency in making the resources available to the academic community at large and also enable the institute participate in various inter-library initiatives at national and international levels.
