About Department: English Department, initially limited to General Course, has been offering Honours course to the students since 1995 together with an orientation to value-based, socially aware perspective. In its formative stages, Professors like Mr. Nijan De Choudhury and Mr. Taradas Bandyopadhyay adorned the chairs of the Deparment. The contributions of Prof. Sipra Pal (Das), one of the backbones of the Department, will remain unforgettable to the posterity for her unflinching support to the upliftment of the Department. She discharged honorary service for 3 years to the Department after her superannuation in 2013. Prof Jay sankar Bose, another stalwart, inculcated among the students a philosophical insight without which reading literature remains meaningkess. The temporary Faculties benefit the Department in their best possible ways. Despite the impoverished infrastructure, faculties & students labour hard in translating the dreams of heightening its standard & keeping it up. The Departmental Library, though inadequate, is meant for student-support. The students are the genuine assets of the Department. Right from the inception, it has seen 5-6 toppers in the University Finals other than so many first-class baggers. Some of them (Dr.ChitantanSarkar, Dr.Anirban Bhattacharyya, Sohini Nath & Sudipta Mandal) topped both in UG & PG.Poulomi Nayak and Nabanita Paulcame 1st and 2nd respectively in PG Finals. The students are potentially rich in extra-curricular activities too. Departmental Reunion, make room for a confluence which the students eagerly look forward to. In a word, it's a second home to all of us.
